Got to this site by recommendation from my brother. Great-great-grandson of Troop H QMSgt Israel P. Cross of Quaker Bottom (now Proctorville), Lawrence Co., OH. I've seen you folks some few years ago here in Logan Co. at Middleburg during a Memorial Day weekend.
To see an account of QMSgt Cross' "narrow escape" during Sherman's Richmond Raid, go to http://www.lawrencecountyohi o.com/civilwar/narrowescapes /NE33.htm

I met one of y'all in the stables late friday night when I was lookin at the horses with my friends, and saw Bob Vance around there somewhere too. We headed for Columbus on saturday, so unfortunately, we missed out on all the fun at the grandstand. Though, I'm not gonna be missin out on the Raid for ANYthing. See y'all soon. :)

We are delighted to know that you have all maintained an interest and a pride in the experiences of your ancestors. Unfortunately, the Sixth Ohio Re-enacting Unit does not maintain individual records of the veterans of our unit. The best resource for these records would be the government, but with a name and unit number, a surprising amount of information may be available. Enlistment records, pension records, and records of burial in U.S. military cemeteries can all be located on the internet, with a good dose of luck. If we encounter any particularly good links, we will post them. Happy hunting!!!

I had two ancestors serve with the 6th Ohio Cavalry. I believe their names were Louis and George Merkle. One brother was killed in action. His death was witnessed by his brother who stated that his brother's horse was shot from under him and when it fell it pinned him by the leg. A rebel ran up and shot him dead. His name is on the plaque in the monument. I'm trying to find out where...what battle or skirmish his death occured and locate his grave if there is one.

Hello,
My relative fought with the 6th Ohio cavalry. His name was John Allison. Can you tell me anything about him. The only thing that I know is that he was wounded by a saber during a skirmish just prior to Gettysburg and he outlived the war. Al

Had 2 relatives in the 6th OVC, Company L-George Washington Andrews and his son George Lucius Andrews. George Lucius Andrews is under Lucius G. Andrews to prevent confusion with his dad...
