John was captured near Barbers Crossroads, Haymarket, Virinia, in the months following the battle at Gettysburg. He was imprisoned at Bell Island/Libby Prison in Richmond. He subsequently died during a prioner exchange in a field hospital near Fredericksburg, Virginia. His name was Fletcher Golden He was wounded in his right shoulder at the battle of Hatcher's run Va on Feb 5 1865 and became the company sargeant after the previous one was killed in combat. He rose to the rank of 2nd lieutenant. He presented an engraved commemorative sword on behalf of his company to their company Captian shaddock.
